Brand

I feel like creating a brand identity for a work of literature is daunting task because it associates that work with one logo or emblem.  I wanted to make the final logo as clear cut as possible.  Due to this reasoning, I ended up choosing the emblem of wind since it incorporates all the aspects Calvino found important in literature and also the elements I have discussed in the second part of this blog.  Wind is obviously physically light and can make other things light as well.

If the wind is strong enough it can push things (like leaves or cloth) off the ground causing it to move in the air.  This made me think of Celie and Shug since Shug explained one day in conversation that God is everywhere in nature.  Due to this realm of thinking, wind has the ability to seem otherworldly.  Regarding quickness, the wind can push people forward making them walk quicker and can also move through the air at a strong mile per hour rate.  I thought of the boat that Nettie was on in the text and how the winds affected the speed of the vessel as they made their way from Africa back to America.  Wind speed is also an exact science.  Wind can move multiple things at once and can be in multiple parts of the earth at one time, affecting different wordly aspects.  And although wind itself is not visible, the earthly elements that it moves are viewable to the human eye.
